Police and Criminal Evidence Amendment (No. 2) Act

The Police and Criminal Evidence Amendment (No. 2) Act 2010 is generally housekeeping. It will also change the time a person can be detained for without charge from the existing 24 and 36 hour time limits to 42 and 54 hours, and introduces a third tier of 66 hours. A magistrate can also order a further 30 hours in detention.

Note: The PACE (Suspension of Commencement of Specified Provisions) Act 2010 has been tabled in the House on 5 November 2010 and seeks to suspend the commencement of sections 2-20 of this Amendment Act.
